Mabox Linux 26.02 available

Mabox 26.02 is ready for download. What’s new in this release? The sound menu W-a, the rewritten Colorizer module for Cava – sound visualization – and some fixes for ScreenRecording tool.
As usual, it also includes a portion of corrections and minor improvements in Mabox tools.

Important! Picom compositor disabled by default

Enable Picom in Autostart
Why? Mabox is often installed on aging computers. On some of them, Picom can cause problems.
It is highly recommended to try it and enable after installation.
First, try if Picom works well by W-p shortcut (start/stop Picom).
To start automatically, select it in: Menu -> Mabox Config -> Autostart -> Choose apps/service (GUI Editor)
You can turn on/off Picom at any time with W-p.

Audio menu

Audio menu [W-a]
New simple audio menu binded to the right-click in the volume icon in the panel (as well as under the shortcut W-a).
Allows you to:

  • launch pavucontrol (volume control) (also W-v)
  • launch audio players + mabox mini player in the form of menu
    (also W-m)
  • launch PyRadio in the terminal or in the style of show-hide
    (also W-r; quit by q)
  • launch of Cava visualization
  • when PyRadio and/or Cava are running, easy access to the corresponding Colorizer modules

Renewed Cava colorizer module

Cava Colorizer
Practically rewritten from scratch Colorizer module for Cava. The modernized default configuration file makes the sound visualization more dynamic.
Several useful options have been added to Colorizer to easily modify both the look and how Cava visualization works.

Screenshot / Screen recording tool

Screen Recording tool W-PrtScr (basic ffmpeg frontend) should now record audio correctly.

In the Settings submenu, select the options you want:
For screenshots:

  • file type: PNG, JPG, or WebM

For desktop recording:

  • record audio or not
  • container: MKV, WebM, or MP4
  • frame rate (fps)

To stop recording click icon in system tray.
